While speaking with “The Breakfast Club,” the rapper and singer explained that she’s choosing to protect her relationship by keeping it more private.
“If you really love something, keep that s**t a secret. If you really love something, keep it a secret. So there are things that I protect now,” she stated.
Lizzo and Wright, who have been dating since 2022, have made several public appearances together. The “Good As Hell” star said she originally wanted fans to witness her love story, while also trying to remain transparent.
“Like I want y’all to see this. This is so beautiful. And then the world got two seconds of my relationship, and I was like, ‘Oh, y’all don’t know how to act,'” she added.
Although Lizzo admitted she didn’t personally see all the negativity, past experiences taught her to step back from publicly sharing her romance.
“All that cute s**t, all that black love, back in the vault,” Lizzo added. “I don’t want to give nobody an opportunity to destroy something good. And I found that it wasn’t really necessarily about my relationship that people did that. It was other things, my other relationships, where that happened. And I was like, I don’t even want to give you the opportunity.”
While the couple hasn’t had much public drama, a woman did accuse Wright of leaving their ten-year relationship to be with Lizzo. Neither the Grammy winner nor Wrignt responded to the claims.
