Lizzo is featured in People’s latest cover and puts body-shamers to rest as she embraces her body and says, “I like being fat.”
The “Juice” singer always catches headlines about her body, and she admits she’s tired of her body being the focus instead of her musical success. “We all know I’m fat.”
“It doesn’t bother me. I like being fat, and I’m beautiful, and I’m healthy. So can we move on?”
She talks about the Black stereotypes that she has to face being an overweight woman in the People cover. She claims she wants to be “freed” from the stereotype of either being the “funny fat friend” or “the friend who is gonna beat you a** ’cause she’s so big.”
“I think I have a really hot body! I’m a body icon, and I’m embracing that more and more every day. It may not be one person’s ideal body type just like say, Kim Kardashian might not be someone’s ideal, but she’s a body icon and has created a modern-day beauty standard.”
She gained recognition from “Truth Hurts,” which appeared in Netflix’s Someone Great and went viral on TikTok. Lizzo isn’t a stranger to making headlines for her body-positive Instagram posts with risque outfits.
Lizzo continues, “And what I’m doing is stepping into my confidence and my power to create my own beauty standard. And one day that will just be the standard.”
The Grammy winner has remained open about her weight and shared she actually gained weight in January on Instagram. “I gained weight💅🏾,” Lizzo, 33, captioned her video, adding proudly, “I look TF GOODT😍.”
Also discussed in her cover was Lizzo’s upcoming reality show, Watch Out for the Big Grrrls. The show is premiering on Amazon Prime Video on March 25 and will take viewers behind the scenes of Lizzo searching for backup dancers for the tour. In trailer, she says, “I’m looking for dancers to join me on my tour.”
