LL Cool J believes he’s never been invited to the Roc Nation Brunch because he made fun of Jay-Z in high school.
During a round of the game ‘For Real For Real For False For False’ on Big Boy’s Neighborhood, the host asked LL if he had attended the Grammy weekend event. The rapper turned actor discussed the alleged incident which he said was “false for false.”
“I love everybody. I don’t have no problems with none of these guys, man,” he said. “If I laughed, okay, so what? Laugh at me. How many people have you laughed at or snapped on in the lunch room? Come on, B. Give your man a pass on that nonsense, man. This is ridiculous. I don’t even remember it.”
He continued, “I laughed at you so now I can’t have no brunch? I can’t have no finger food?”
The two rappers appeared to have a cordial relationship, but it soured in 2006 when LL decided to depart from Def Jam, the record label he played a key role in building. Despite Jay-Z serving as the label’s president at the time, LL felt undervalued and neglected. Jay-Z allegedly gave preference to younger artists rather than recognizing LL’s status as a seasoned performer.
During an interview on VH1’s Behind the Music in 2007, LL conveyed his disappointment, stating, “That hurt. That was painful, and that created a lot of bruised blood in my spirit.”
