A fisherman in Massachusetts shared an unbelievable story of his diving trip this week. The man claims he was swallowed whole by a Humpback Whale.
According to People, Michael Packard of Massachusetts said the incident occurred early Friday morning while fishing for lobster off Cape Cod.
Packard told the Cape Cod Times that he ended up temporarily trapped inside the mouth of a humpback whale after he jumped into the Cape Cod waters on Friday morning.
The 56-year-old man said he was heading toward the bottom of the seafloor to grab lobsters when he says he was suddenly engulfed in what he described as complete darkness.
“All of a sudden, I felt this huge shove and the next thing I knew it was completely black,” Packard, who was being at treated at Cape Cod Hospital, told the news outlet. “I could sense I was moving, and I could feel the whale squeezing with the muscles in his mouth,” he explained.
Packard said he initially thought a great white shark was eating him, but he didn’t feel the bite of the animal’s teeth.
“I was completely inside (the whale); it was completely black,” Packard claimed. “I thought to myself, ‘There’s no way I’m getting out of here. I’m done, I’m dead,” he said.
Packard said all he could think of was his two children, aged 12 and 15. Then suddenly after 30 to 40 seconds, the whale surfaced and spit Packard out of its mouth, he said.
“I saw light, and he started throwing his head side-to-side and the next thing I knew I was outside (in the water),” Packard recounted.
