Weeks after all criminal charges against Jussie Smollett were dropped in connection to his alleged hate crime, the actor reportedly reached out to colleagues who offered support throughout his legal drama. In fact, just last week, Smollett’s “Empire” co-star, Taraji P. Henson opened up about her relationship with Smollett, his well-being in the wake of the legal drama, and even revealed that the controversial star will return to his beloved role as Jamal Lyon on the hit series.
But now, the latest celebrity to share their most recent interaction with Smollett is comedian and “The Real” host, Loni Love.
During the latest episode of the talk show, Love revealed that Smollett reached out to her over the weekend to open up about his legal woes, his future plans and more, in an hour and a half phone conversation. In addition to that, Love said Smollett actually asked her to share the details of their personal conversation on the show.
“He said that he was reaching out [to] people that showed love and support,” Love revealed of the conversation. ‘He said that I can ask any question I wanted. I was there not to judge him. I just wanted to listen to what he had to say.”
“He is going through it y’all,” she continued. “He has a lot of details. There’s a lot of things that’s happening. He was candid. He was raw. He has a lot to say but he’s not publicly ready to speak, but when he is publicly ready to speak, he will. I’m encouraging him to speak because of what the things that he was saying, there’s so many questions that he was answering in my mind and I just want to keep everybody encouraged.”
“He said that he wanted to find out how the public felt,” she continued, adding that she initially tweeted about the conversation after it occurred. “So that’s why I put out the tweet. Not putting out a tweet as a scoop and all this…This is something he asked me to do.”
