The Los Angeles Lakers‘ season is officially over after a demoralizing loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves at home in Game Five of the Western Conference first-round series—a dominant performance led by three-time Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert.
Gobert finished the game with 27 points and 24 rebounds. The Lakers opted for a small-ball lineup, and Gobert made them pay for it. Head coach JJ Redick chose not to play big man Jaxson Hayes, a decision that proved costly.
An NBA Hall of Famer said in a pregame meeting with Redick that the coach was acting erratic and childish—so much so that he had to calm him down after Redick challenged him over decisions made in the previous Game Four loss.
It was a frustrating series for the Lakers and ended in a gentleman’s sweep. Timberwolves shooting guard Anthony Edwards recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. After the game, he took to the streets of Los Angeles to celebrate.
“They said ‘Lakers in 5,’ and when we were up 3-1, they said ‘Lakers in 7,’” Edwards told fans who followed him and his entourage. “Go to hell today… Good guys don’t die in this movie, Morris Chestnut died in this movie.”
The Minnesota Timberwolves now await the winner of the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets series. Check out the video below of Ant strolling through the streets of L.A. after their first-round win.
