Louisiana Assistant Principal Indicted For A Second Time In The Murder Of Pregnant Teacher

A former assistant principal in Louisiana has been indicted for allegedly murdering his pregnant co-worker back in 2016. 

Louisiana man Robert J. Marks, 42, was indicted for a second time by a second grand jury for allegedly killing 40-year-old Lyntell Washington, who was a teacher at the same school he worked at. People reports that Marks was indicted on Tuesday in Iberville Parish; the charges include second-degree murder, feticide, kidnapping, aggravated kidnapping of a child, obstruction of justice, and multiple gun-related offenses.

According to WAFB, Marks was first charged with murder and feticide by grand jurors in East Baton Rouge Parish. But a judge recently moved it to Iberville Parish, where the victim’s body was found, People reports. Investigators located her body in a ditch in Rosedale, adding they believe Washington was fatally shot in East Baton Rouge.

Washington was seven months pregnant, allegedly with Marks’ child, the day she was murdered. And at the time, Marks was married. The police say Marks allegedly went to dispose of Washington’s body, drove Washington’s car to her neighborhood, parked the car, and left Washington’s 3-year-old daughter inside. 

Police found the girl walking around by herself with her mother’s blood leaving tracks from the bottoms of her feet. Authorities say she identified Marks as her mother’s killer. The man is now being held on an $885,000 bond. 

Washington and Marks worked together at Brookstown Middle Magnet in Baton Rouge; Washington was an instructional specialist while Marks was an assistant principal. After Marks was indicted, he was fired from his position at the school.
