Stevie J was all packed up and ready to serve a bid after owing over a million dollars in back child support. Now it appears the reality star has caught a bit of a break.
Stevie J was hauled into Manhattan federal court on Tuesday where prosecutors fought to have him jailed until his trial after he repeatedly failed his drug tests while out on bail. According to the Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew James DeFilippis, Stevie failed multiple drugs tests, including tests in June and August. He has also missed several testing appointments. Stevie is currently awaiting trial for his $1 million in back child support. Staying away from drugs was part of his agreement when he bailed out. Luckily for Stevie, Judge Debra Freeman was having a good day and opted to not throw him behind bars — this time.
“It may be a bit of a shock for you. You are really testing the limits of the court’s patience,” she reportedly told Stevie.
Instead of jail time, Stevie has been ordered to undergo rehab followed by home detention for violating the terms of his bail.
Reports say Stevie attempted to confront Andrew James DeFilippis after the court hearing. With reporters in ear reach, Stevie yelled out to DeFilippis, “You wanna have a word with me, Andrew?”
DeFilippis reportedly kept walking. Stevie then told reporters, “I’m a grown man and he’s a grown man, and he’s making allegations that might take me away from my family, so of course if we’re on the street why not have a heart-to-heart?”
Knowing that this could go ALL bad, reporters asked Stevie J whether or not him shouting at the prosecutor could be perceived as a threat. Stevie answered, “Of course not. It wasn’t a threatening conversation.”
When asked about being put on house arrest, Stevie J called the ruling “a bunch of bullsh*t.”
“Of course I’m not OK with it, but it’s more or less like confinement to home for what,” he said.
“Cause I’m a black tax paying citizen taking care of all his kids?”
I don’t know, Stevie. Jail sounds a lot worse than house arrest.
