It looks like the LSU Women’s Basketball team is headed to the White House despite days of controversy surrounding Dr. Jill Biden’s unfavorable invitation.
The LSU athletic department confirmed on Wednesday that they’d indeed be heading to the White House. This announcement comes after the team’s star player, Angel Reese, blasted Dr. Biden for inviting the Iowa Hawkeyes to join the LSU Tigers during the trip to the presidential quarters. Historically, only the team winning the championship is invited to attend this celebratory visit. Reese, along with social media, slammed Biden, and an apology quickly ensued.
However, Reese was not moved by her apology and insinuated that the team would not be attending the White House. Instead, she said the ladies would much rather meet the Obamas.
“I mean, you felt like they should’ve come because of ‘sportsmanship,’ right? They can have that spotlight. We’ll go to the Obamas,” the 20-year-old said during an interview with the Paper Route podcast.
The LSU Tigers secured their first championship in program history, though Reese has been the topic of discussion. Many in the sports world blasted her for not being gracious enough on the court following her win. She was captured making a popular John Cena hand motion directed at Iowa star Caitlin Clark. However, many athletes make the hand motion after victories with no backlash.
Hopefully, the ladies of LSU can celebrate their championship without outside distractions.
