Today, we honor the birthday of the incomparable Christopher Brian Bridges, widely known to the world as Ludacris.
Emerging in the late ’90s, Ludacris’ explosive Virgo energy set him apart initially on the radio. Before becoming a rapper, he worked as an intern and eventually a DJ for Hot 97.5 in Atlanta, now known as 107.9 FM in Atlanta. He formed his own label, Disturbing tha Peace, and began pushing his own music. He made his debut in 1999 with his first independent album, “Incognegro. However, after landing a deal with Def Jam, it was his first major label release, “Back for the First Time,” that shot him to superstardom. Lead single “What’s Your Fantasy” became an instant success, and the project debuted at number four on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, selling 133,000 copies in its first week.
From there, Luda became a staple within the hip-hop community for hits such as “Move B****,” “Area Codes,” and countless others, earning him three Grammy Awards. However, it wasn’t just his music that was making waves. Thanks to his many acting roles, Ludacris’ impact has been felt in the cinematic world. Luda was introduced to the Fast & Furious franchise in its 2003 sequel, “2 Fast 2 Furious,” where his portrayal of Tej Parker helped the series become a global phenomenon. Beyond entertainment, he is also a dedicated philanthropist, using his Ludacris Foundation to empower youth and support communities in need.
September 11th marks Ludacris turning 47. Here are several of our favorite tunes to help fans everywhere turn up on this special day.
