A Lyft driver says she was kidnapped and shot by one of the riders she picked up while driving.
Brandy Littrell, 36, detailed her horrific journey escaping a teen Lyft rider who attacked, kidnapped and shot her on Tuesday in Jackson, Mississippi. Littrell says the teen was like any other rider. He told her he was on his way to work, saying he appeared to be like any “regular person going to work.”
The night quickly changed for the worse when the teen, 17-year-old Dontarious Magee, pulled out a gun and forcibly Littrell to move to the backseat of the car. The teen then took her credit cards and phone, drove to a wooded area, and shot her six to seven times, Yahoo! News reports.
“I’m sitting there thinking, ‘OK, this is how I’m going to die,'” said Littrell.
Bleeding profusely, Littrell was able to reach a nearby home, where she called the police. She’s now recovering at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
In a statement, Lyft said it banned Magee permanently from the app, adding that it “stands ready” to help authorities in the case. “The incident described is horrific and our hearts go out to Ms. Littrell and her loved ones,” said Lyft. The company also mentioned that it has implemented new safety measures and other alerts are being worked on in order to “prevent these kinds of incidents moving forward.”
Magee was taken into custody on the same day of the incident. Authorities charged him with carjacking, kidnapping, aggravated assault and armed robbery.
