It’s official. Octavia Spencer is stepping back into her creepy party-hosting role in a sequel to Blumhouse’s hit thriller “Ma.” The production company behind some of horror’s biggest modern hits confirmed the news at its Business of Horror event in Hollywood.
The sequel is still in early development, with no release date or director locked in yet, but fans are already buzzing. The original 2019 film followed Sue Ann “Ma” Ellington, a lonely woman who invites local teens to party at her house—only for things to spiral into deadly chaos. Spencer’s performance quickly became a cult favorite, inspiring memes, fan contests, and even a political cameo years later.
Despite its modest budget, the first film brought in over $61 million worldwide and has only grown more popular since. Its 2024 re-release during Blumhouse’s “Halfway to Halloween” campaign brought even more attention back to the twisted thriller.
Now, “Ma” is getting a second chance to chill—and possibly kill—with Octavia Spencer once again at the center of the madness.
