Mac Miller fans are honoring him on the sixth anniversary of his untimely passing, which shook the hip-hop community.
September 7th marks six years since the world lost Miller, a visionary artist who burst onto the scene in 2011 with his debut, “Blue Slide Park.” Before his death, Miller would release another four studio albums, “Watching Movies with the Sound Off,” “GO:OD AM,” “The Divine Feminine,” and “Swimming,” which was unveiled in August 2018, just one month before his death. His posthumous album, “Circles,” was released in January 2020.
The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native drew fans in with his raw lyrics, which unapologetically touched on themes of love and his battle with addiction and mental health. Before hitting the mainstream, Miller also unveiled several mixtapes, one of which being “Faces,” which he used to document his depression and thoughts of death, even using the final song, “Grand Finale,” to bid farewell to fans.
“It just eats at your mind, doing drugs every single day, every second. It’s rough on your body. That was the plan with ‘Faces’ [closing song]. ‘Grand Finale’ was supposed to be the last song I made on earth. I don’t feel that way as much anymore,” he candidly shared in a 2015 interview with Billboard.
Sadly, Miller would succumb to his substance addiction, passing away from an accidental overdose of fentanyl, cocaine, and alcohol. Three people were charged and subsequently sentenced in relation to selling him the drugs that killed him. As fans use today to honor his legacy, they are remembering both the artist and the human being who touched millions.
