Mack Maine is mourning an unimaginable loss. The rapper confirmed that his son Zeke died earlier this month at his home in California following a seizure. He was 20 years old.
In a statement shared on Instagram, Mack Maine said he is still struggling to come to terms with the tragedy. He admitted that accepting the loss has been painful and confusing.
“I’m still in shock and still processing the fact that he’s gone. Still confused, still questioning life and why my child and not me,” he wrote. The New Orleans artist said his son’s death has left a void that cannot be filled, adding that he finds comfort in his faith. “I know I am and was his father while he was here in the flesh but now he’s ascended to rejoin OUR Father God in the spirit and his ancestors who also loved him dearly like his grandfather and grandmother.”
The Young Money president reflected on how fatherhood shaped his life. He thanked Zeke for giving him purpose and motivating him through difficult times. “Zeke I thank you for granting me with one of the greatest gifts I’ve ever received, Fatherhood. The experience and bond with you brought me purpose. YOU were my biggest inspiration and motivation. YOU were the reason I got out of the bed when everyone else snoozed. Your smile brightened my dark days as you were my SONshine.”
Mack Maine remembered his son as someone with a pure heart and an innocent spirit. He acknowledged how deeply the loss has impacted everyone who loved Zeke. “Your soul was made of innocence and your heart was pure. Since July 16th your village has been crushed and we’re hurting. This is a pain I’ve personally never felt before but I’m still trusting and believing in God’s plan and God’s will and mercy. You’ll always be my Prince. I need you more than ever now to watch over me from the other side. Now you’re reunited with two of your favorite souls, Bentley and Dip.”
The date of his son’s passing holds additional significance for the rapper. It falls on his own birthday and the anniversary of his father’s death.
