Maino is setting the record straight about an early-career run-in with Jim Jones, denying Cam’ron’s exaggerated retelling of their confrontation. During an appearance on Way Up with Angela Yee, the “Hi Hater” rapper explained how things really went down between him and his Lobby Boyz partner.

“The song he’s talking about is the song that put me in the game, ‘Rumors,’ where I was talking about all the rumors in the industry,” Maino explained. “The thing about that is I mentioned [Cam’ron] in the song; I didn’t mention Jimmy. Jimmy didn’t like me [because of that], so when we saw each other, we would have these ‘face fights,’ but nothing ever happened.”
Maino went on to clarify that their eventual confrontation wasn’t as dramatic as Cam’ron described.
“We were in Atlanta, and we had a conversation. He didn’t approach me and press me or none of that. We had a conversation. It wasn’t spectacular; nobody swung,” he said. “Once we started to talk and realized that we had things in common, we were cool from that point on. We’ve been way cooler than we were [enemies] because we didn’t know each other. That was a long time ago.”
While Maino admitted there was tension between him and Jim Jones that “needed to be addressed,” he emphasized that it “didn’t go like” the story Cam’ron told.
Cam’ron’s version of events was shared during an episode of his sports talk show, It Is What It Is, amid a heated rant against Jim Jones earlier this week. In his retelling, Cam claimed that Jim “pressed” Maino over lyrics in the “Rumors” song, only for Maino to flip the script and aggressively respond.
“Jim went to see Maino one day and was like, ‘Yo, wassup with all that saying my name?’ Maino said, ‘Who the fk you talking to?! Oh, you think I’m one of them n****s? You out your muthafking mind!’” Cam said on the show. “Now they’re the Lobby Boyz.”
Cam’ron also used the story to criticize Jim for allegedly making peace with “every n***a that put hands on [him]” while continuing to feud with people who have genuine love for him.
Adding to the narrative, DJ Envy backed Cam’ron’s claims on The Breakfast Club, recalling the night in question and painting Maino as a “bad boy” figure who faked pulling a gun on Jim Jones in a nightclub.
“Maino had three [people with him],” Envy said. “Jim came in the club and must have had about 15 dudes with him. And when he walked down the stairs, the first thing Maino did was turn around and said, ‘Yo, everybody tuck your chains in.’”
According to Envy, Jim walked over to Maino and his crew, prompting Maino to fake reach into his jacket as if he had a gun, causing the club to scatter in panic.
