Patriots quarterback Tom Brady recently spent a day fulfilling the wishes of a young cancer survivor named Gabriel, but in the end, it was Tom that got the sweeter end of the deal.
Last weekend, 6-year-old Gabriel Aljalian got a chance to do what most kids his age can only dream of doing…he got the chance to play football with the great Tom Brady. Gabriel, who was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of three, caught the attention of the Make-A-Wish Foundation after he (with the help of his parents) started Gabriel’s Day of Kindness, an event designed to spread kindness. On November 3, three years after his initial diagnosis, Gabriel and his family encouraged everyone to take the day to perform good deeds for others. “We want to change what November 3 means for him, and change this dark day into one full of light and happiness. We ask you to join in our gratitude by performing acts of kindness in Gabriel’s honor on November 3rd!” it reads on the event’s official Facebook page. Gabriel and his family also donated gifts to Boston Children’s Hospital and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
To express their gratitude, the Make-A-Wish Foundation helped set up a day for Gabriel to visit Gillette Stadium. Throughout the course of the day, he met Brady, tight end Rob Gronkowski, and Patriots owner Robert Kraft. He also got to hold his own press conference and received his very own customized jersey.
At the end of the day, Gabriel was so grateful that the quarterback took time out of his day to hang out with him, that he decided to give him a gift: a thank you note with 10 dollars in it. Tom was genuinely touched and gave Gabriel a big hug. Tom Brady may have millions in the bank, but that 10 dollars from Gabriel will always hold a special place in his heart.
