Netflix has announced that the hit show Making a Murderer will return for a second season. According to ABC, the six-Emmy nominated show will jump into “the story of convicted murderer Steven Avery and his co-defendant and nephew Brendan Dassey, as their defense teams again challenge their clients’ convictions and life sentences — and prosecutors fight to have the sentences upheld.” The duo were convicted in 2005 for the murder of photographer Teresa Halbach.
The series’ creators, Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos, said in a statement, “We are extremely grateful for the tremendous response to, and support of, the series. The viewers’ interest and attention has ensured that the story is not over, and we are fully committed to continuing to document events as they unfold.” The release date is still to be determined for the upcoming season. There’s also no information about how many episodes this season will have. Avery was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole back in 2007. Dassey was also convicted and sentenced to life, but he will be eligible for parole in 2048.
