Malik Beasley is catching heat off the court as legal woes pile up. The Detroit Pistons guard is under federal investigation for alleged wire fraud and gambling activities, and it’s revealing serious money issues.
A Milwaukee barbershop, Cairo Cuts, won a $26,827 judgment against him in January. That same month, Minnesota dentist Dr. Hassan Alshehabi secured a $34,390 default judgment and started garnishing Beasley’s Pistons paychecks.
In April, Hazan Sports Management sued Beasley for failing to repay a $650,000 advance, claiming, “a substantial investment of time, effort, and resources in a player with known issues.” They’re seeking over $2.25 million.
Court documents also show Beasley used future NBA earnings as collateral for a loan from a Florida-based company. All of this hits just as Pistons’ talks for a $42 million deal are reportedly on pause as a federal gambling investigation takes place.
Last season, Beasley averaged 16.3 points per game. But off the court, the pressure is clearly building.
