More than nine months after the fatal shooting of a Texas rapper, authorities announced Wednesday that a man had been taken into custody.Â
James Thomas, 34, was taken apprehended for the murder of Chucky Trill, real name Corey Detiege as he was deplaning at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.Â
Thomas is facing charges of malice murder and four counts of aggravated assault.Â
Detiege, 33, had just arrived in Atlanta to perform during NBA All-Star Weekend when someone pulled up alongside his vehicle and opened fire on I-85. He was found shot inside the car about 3 a.m. Detiege was taken to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.Â
Authorities shut down the northbound lanes of the interstate for several hours to investigate. In 2021, there have been multiple interstate shootings in the Metro Atlanta area.
After his arrest, Thomas was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail. He is being held without bond.Â
