Florida Man Admits to Threatening to Murder Derek Chauvin’s Defense Attorney

A Florida man admitted to threatening Derek Chauvin’s defense attorney.

On Wednesday, 42-year-old Josh Hartnett of Coral Gables pleaded guilty to threatening to murder Chauvin’s defense attorney, Eric Nelson. This comes after Hartnett called the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association and left an 18-second voicemail for Nelson on April 6.

“Hey, you and your whole f–king family are going to f—king die, you motherf—er, for representing Chauvin, a f—king murderer,” said Harnett in the voicemail. The association funded Chauvin’s defense in the case involving the murder of George Floyd. “Now, you all are going to f—king die a worse death than Floyd, you motherf—-. All of you piece of sh—,” he continued.

After Chauvin was convicted of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter, he was sentenced to 22 and half years in prison back in June. Hartnett pleaded not guilty to one count of transmitting a threat through interstate communications. He is now looking at a maximum of five years in prison. His sentencing will take place on December 15.
