A Texas man has been charged with murder for killing his girlfriend after finding out that she was pregnant by him.
Cavanna Smith was found shot to death on the side of Reid Street and Irvington in Houston on the morning of October 6th after telling a friend that her boyfriend, 25-year-old Kwanmaine Travion Boyd, had kidnapped her. Smith initially sent her friend her location and wrote, “I’m at this location getting my money if anything happens to me.” Soon after, she told her friend that Boyd wouldn’t let her out of his car. The friend immediately offered to get her and then notified authorities, who ultimately found her deceased during their investigation.
Smith’s sister, Brittany Wilson, told ABC 13 that she accompanied her sister to an ultrasound appointment the day before her murder, which confirmed that she was four weeks pregnant. However, Wilson says Boyd was not happy and told Smith that he did not want any more kids, already having four that he was paying child support for. The day after breaking the news to him, she went to his home to retrieve the money he owed her and show him the ultrasound photo. At some point, he placed her in his vehicle, and a neighbor described hearing the two argue loudly before Boyd retrieved a gun and shot Smith in the head.
Back at Boyd’s apartment, police located a positive pregnancy test, the ultrasound image, and a card from Smith revealing that they were expecting a child together. They also discovered a receipt for a gun purchase made on September 15th, a Taurus GC2 9mm handgun, and bullets matching what was used to kill Smith.
Boyd went on the run after killing Smith but was apprehended on Friday. He has been charged with Capital murder, which means he could face the death penalty.
