A South Carolina dog owner has been charged after his animals mauled a 7-year-old boy to death.
On June 13, seven-year-old Shamar Jackson and his brother were out in their neighborhood looking for their Chihuahua. According to PEOPLE, that’s when a group of dogs approached the siblings.
“They couldn’t get away because it was so many dogs coming from different directions,” Carnell Jackson, Shamar’s father, told The State newspaper. “I didn’t think I would come home and find my son dead.” Shamar’s brother was able to get away.
The news outlet reports the dogs tore the boy’s clothes off from his body. The dogs belonged to 41-year-old Lorenzo Cardenas of Marion. He now faces charges of involuntary manslaughter and animals/penalty for the owner of dangerous animal attacks and injuries to a human. A bond hearing for Cardenas has been scheduled for this Wednesday.
