A Louisiana man has been charged for allegedly sexually assaulting three children he met on the social media app Snapchat.
On Wednesday, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office said 18-year-old Ryheim Ross was taken into custody after assaulting children ages 11, 12, and 13.
“Given the nature of the crimes and the fact that Ross was targeting his victims via mutual acquaintances and thru social media, detectives have reason to believe there may possibly be more victims out there,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a statement, NBC News reports.
Ross has been on authorities’ radar since last year. He was previously charged with first-degree rape with a victim who was under 13 years of age, which was connected to his alleged sexual assault of the 11-year-old. While investigating, officials found out about two other victims.
The sheriff’s office said Ross was charged with first-degree rape of the victim under 12 in March, NBC News reports. He was also charged with raping a 13-year-old, which reportedly took place on Nov. 3.
“It is utterly appalling that this suspect preyed on young children using Snapchat and mutual acquaintances! When this happens in our community, those committing such heinous acts will be apprehended and charged accordingly,” St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith said in the statement. “Please be vigilant and if you have young children using social media, carefully monitor their content to protect them from being victimized.”
The man is now being held on a $405,000 bond.
