A 23-year-old man has been charged in the shooting death of a popular former Indiana college football player known as ‘Mr. Indianapolis.”
Chris Beaty, 28, was shot to death in May in Indianapolis’ downtown area during protests following George Floyd’s death. Police found his body after responding to calls for a man down. Beaty was shot four times.
According to PEOPLE, Marcus Jayon Anderson was charged this week with murder, felony murder, armed robbery, and pointing a firearm in connection to Beaty’s murder. Authorities allege that Anderson was part of a group of individuals committing robberies in the area.
Anderson was arrested on robbery charges in August and has remained in Marion County Jail since his arrest.
According to police, additional arrests are forthcoming.
Beaty’s nephew has set up a GoFundMe to benefit the Chris Beaty Memorial Scholarship Fund. The scholarship will be given to incoming students of Beaty’s alma maters, Indiana University, and Cathedral High School.
The fundraiser has almost reached its $200,000 goal.
