Police in London has charged an 18-year-old man with conspiracy to murder over the shooting of Black Lives Matter activist Sasha Johnson, who remains in critical condition.
According to CNN, the 27-year-old mother of three has been a very vocal activist in the fight for equal rights and justice. Johnson was shot in the head last Sunday at a house party in south London, and police have said they don’t believe she was specifically targeted.
London’s Metropolitan Police announced they charged Cameron Deriggs with conspiracy to murder in connection with the shooting on Friday.
Deriggs was one of five young men arrested last Wednesday on suspicion of attempted murder in the case. He and two others were also charged on suspicion of affray (a group fight) and possession with intent to supply Class B drugs.
The youngest of the group of men was a 17-year-old, who was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.
Another man, age 25, was arrested on suspicion of affray and failing to stop for police.
Deriggs is the only one who remains in custody and is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates‘ Court on Saturday. The other four have been released on bail.
