How far will you go to get out of paying a tab?
Several eateries situated in a Spanish urban center have reportedly experienced unusual interactions with an individual. A 50-year-old Lithuanian man named Aidas J., residing in Alicante, pretended to be a “typical Russian tourist.” He ordered multiple items from the menu but allegedly refused to pay for them. His alleged tactic involved faking a heart attack, which he has used on numerous occasions in various restaurants throughout Alicante.
Aidas faced his initial arrest for fraudulent activities in November 2022, and his most recent run-in with the law occurred on September 19. During his latest incident, the audacious scammer dined at El Buen Comer in Alicante’s historic district, where he ordered a seafood paella and two whiskeys, totaling approximately $36.80. After finishing his meal and drinks, the man tried to exit the restaurant but was halted by the staff, who informed him he needed to settle his bill. Initially, Aidas stated that he needed to return to his hotel to retrieve the money. However, he then stated that he was not feeling well and proceeded to throw himself to the ground.
The restaurant staff saw through the man’s deception and contacted the police, who recognized him from his previous arrests and promptly apprehended him once more. Aidas admitted his identity to the police when they arrived at the restaurant and requested an ambulance. However, the officers assessed his condition and found him to be in good health, so they transported him to the police station.
Nevertheless, multiple local restaurants collectively filed a criminal complaint against Aidas, advocating for a potential two-year prison sentence. However, Aidas has already spent 42 days behind bars due to two unpaid fines.
