A New York City man is facing charges after telling police a 7-year-old special needs child was in the back seat of his stolen sports car so police would find it faster.
James Reyes, 33, is now facing a charge of filing a false police report after claiming a child with Down syndrome was in the back of his Ford Mustang. A police source told the New York Post, “He said he wanted his car to be found quicker.”
When the car was found a few hours later in Queens with no kid in it, Reyes admitted he lied. Reyes received a desk appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in court on November 21.
As for the car thief, a 17-year-old is accused of stealing the vehicle. He was located with the car about a half-mile from where it was taken.
The carjacker said that he didn’t know anything about a boy being in the car.
The teen was briefly taken into custody before being released to his parents. No charges were filed.Â
