Just hours after news surfaced of a suspected crystal meth incident involving Andrew Gillum, one of the men found inside the hotel with Gillum is speaking out.
According to local news, the incident occurred before 1 a.m. after officials responded to a call for a suspected drug overdose.
In the incident, 30-year-old Travis Dyson had been having trouble breathing and collapsed twice before police arrived. Afterwards, he was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Hours later, Gillum released a statement, revealing he was in the city for a wedding celebration, and while he had too much to drink, he said: “I have never used methamphetamines.”
“I was in Miami last night for a wedding celebration when first responders were called to assist one of my friends,” Gillum said. “I’m thankful to the incredible Miami Beach EMS team for their efforts.”
But now, as news continues to surface about the incident, Dyson is speaking out as well.
In a brief phone interview with Miami Times, Dyson, who is reportedly a known escort in the area, said he has no idea why Gillum was in the city.
“I personally was not celebrating a wedding,” Dyson said. “I don’t know if [Gillum] was in town for a wedding. He did not mention that.”
“We’ve been friends for a while,” he added before the call ended.
