With all of the amenities and activities that are provided on a cruise, there should never be a dull moment. However, a few young men felt playing on a Royal Caribbean balcony was more entertaining…especially after one of them jumped 100 feet into the ocean from the cruise ship.
Nick Naydev recently posted a video on Instagram that showed him jumping from the 11th deck of Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship, while the vessel was docked in Nassau, Bahamas. The video showed Naydev climbing onto the railing of a cabin balcony, as his friends laughed in the background, and then leaping into the water.
Naydev told his Instagram followers he was drunk at the time, in a comment he left in response to a question from a follower.Â
“I was still drunk from the previous night. When I woke up, I just decided to jump.”
Problem is, Royal Caribbean doesn’t play that and upon his rescue by a small boat, their security advised Naydev that he AND his friends had to get off the ship. Naydev and his companions ended up having to find their own way home from the Bahamas.
In a statement to USA Today, Royal Caribbean said, “This was stupid and reckless behavior, and he and his companions have been banned from ever sailing with us again. We are exploring legal action.” The group of friends are all banned for life from the cruise line and could face legal consequences.
According to USA Today, more than a dozen cruise passengers die each year jumping or falling from cruise ships. Last week, a teenager fell to his death from a Royal Caribbean ship after trying to climb from one cabin balcony to another.
What happened to actually cruising and relaxing on a cruise? Ain’t that the point?
