Quincy Homere, the man responsible for the 2015 murder of rapper Chinx, has been sentenced to 23 years in prison. The sentencing took place on Monday in a Queens, NY, courtroom.
“Quincy Homere was sentenced today to 23 years in prison for killing Lionel Pickens Jr., a successful rapper, husband, and father who was mercilessly gunned down in 2015,” Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz stated following the sentencing. “Homere fired numerous rounds into Pickens’ car while he was stopped at a red light in Briarwood and then fled, leaving the young man for dead. Nothing can undo what happened, but I hope today’s sentence brings some solace to Pickens’ loved ones as they continue to grieve.”
Janelli Caceres-Pickens, Chinx’s widow, also responded to the sentencing on her Instagram Stories, writing, “The murder case for Lionel ‘Chinx’ Pickens is closed – justice wasn’t served but at least someone was held responsible n it didn’t go unsolved.”
“I faced that coward and I spoke to him in court n let him know just how much he stole from us! I told him to his face he was a monster and deserved to spend his life in jail fighting for his! But fortunately for him, I am not the one in control of his fate!! God will handle him 🙏🏽.”
“This chapter is closed but the next one continues… Stay tune for his street naming as we work on that!”
Chinx, who was on the rise in the hip-hop world, was a key member of French Montana’s Coke Boys crew and had been preparing to release his debut studio album, Welcome to JFK, before his untimely death.
The motive behind the killing was reportedly tied to a long-standing grudge stemming from an altercation between Homere and Chinx at Rikers Island in 2009. As Chinx’s career began to take off, Homere’s resentment grew, leading to the fatal encounter.
Homere’s co-defendant, Jamal Hill, still has a pending case related to the murder, and is already incarcerated on an unrelated charge.
