A man set himself on fire outside the lower Manhattan courthouse where former President Donald Trump’s trial is taking place, according to two law enforcement sources speaking to CNN.
The incident occurred in the park across from the courthouse, where the man began by throwing flyers into the air.
A senior law enforcement official detailed that after scattering the flyers, the man pulled an object from his backpack and ignited himself. Emergency responders, including an EMT, quickly intervened, attempting to extinguish the flames and provide aid. CNN’s Laura Coates reported witnessing these efforts firsthand as the situation unfolded outside the courthouse.
Investigators are now actively gathering the flyers, which the man threw before setting himself on fire. A CNN team on the ground examined one of these flyers, which contained the message “NYU is a mob front,” accusing New York University of various wrongdoings.
