A rooster prepped for a cockfight stabbed his owner to death.
According to police in the Lothunur village in Telangana state, the rooster had a 3-inch knife attached to his leg for an illegal cockfight, but the bird stabbed his owner, Thangulla Satish, 45, in the groin last week when it fluttered in panic.
“Satish was hit by the rooster’s knife in his groin and started bleeding heavily,” police inspector B. Jeevan said Sunday. The victim died while being transported to a nearby hospital.
Authorities are now looking for over a dozen others involved in the organized deadly cockfights and say they could face up to two years behind bars if they are found guilty.
The rooster survived the tragic incident.
Police took pictures of the bird while it had a rope tied to it and say they “may need to produce it before the court.”
Bird fighting was banned in India in 1960. However, some people still participate and watch two birds with attached knives or blades fight until one dies or flees.
