A New Jersey man has been sentenced to over 300 years in the heinous murders of a woman and two children stemming from a Facebook post.
Jeremy Arrington received a 375-year sentence for fatally stabbing 7-year-old Ariel Little Whitehurst, her brother, 11-year-old Al-Jahon Whitehurst, and a family friend, 23-year-old Syasia McBurroughs. The disturbing murders took place on November 5th, 2016. That is when Arrington broke into the Newark home where the Whitehurst children lived with their mother. Once inside, he tied up everyone and began torturing and stabbing them. The Whitehurst children’s mother and her 13-year-old siblings survived their injuries. Another child who was in the home was able to escape and call for help. As police closed in on him, Arrington fled and barricaded himself in a nearby house before being captured.
The gruesome murders took place after someone in the home shared an alert on Facebook regarding Arrington being wanted in connection with a previous shooting and sexual assault. According to police, Arrington knew the family and knew who’d made the post.
On Friday, Judge Ronald Wigler gave Arrington three consecutive life sentences plus 75 years each for murder and 50 years for the three surviving victims.
“These families have waited over five years for this moment, and we are all so grateful for this sentence,” stated Deputy Chief Assistant Prosecutor Justin Edwab, who tried the case with Assistant Prosecutor Chelsea Coleman.
