The Texas man who murdered a woman over an argument at a pick-up basketball game was sentenced to 20 years in prison after taking a plea deal.
In October 2022, Asia Womack, 21, was fatally shot by Cameron Hogg after they got into an argument over a game of pick-up basketball in South Dallas, Fox 4 News reported.
Womack left the park and went to watch a football game a short distance away. Authorities say that’s when Hogg drove up and, without saying a word, shot the victim twice in her chest and then, as she fell to the ground, shot her two more times.
Hogg’s trial was expected to start this week, but he took the 20-year plea deal on Monday. Womack’s mother, Andrea Womack, says she knew there might be a deal but calls it a slap in the face.
“She holds a place in a lot of people’s hearts,” the grieving mother said, adding that she thinks about her daughter every day.
“It’s a slap in the face because it’s pretty much saying that Asia’s life was only worth 20 years. That’s basically what they’re saying,” Andrea said.
