On Sunday night, Al Jazeera America aired a documentary that was aimed at blowing the cover off of the professional sports world and the use of PEDs. Of the athletes mentioned that were accused of doping up, was star QB Peyton Manning.
A pharmacist by the name of Charlie Sly is featured in the film claiming that he provides Manning with Human Growth Hormone (via Manning’s wife) as well as several other athletes. He’s since taken back those claims, saying that he was recorded without his knowledge. “The statements on any recordings or any communications that Al-Jazeera plans to air are absolutely false and incorrect,” Mr. Sly said on Youtube “To be clear, I am recanting any such statements and there is no truth to any statement of mine that Al Jazeera plans to air. Under no circumstances should any of those statements recordings or communications be aired.”
Sly even says that he is not a pharmacist and was not employed by Guyer Institute in Indianapolis when this would have taken place in 2011. However, NBC analyst Peter King reported that employment records indeed showed that Sly worked at the anti-aging clinic in 2011.
Peter King also asked Manning if he will sue Al Jazeera to which he replied, “Yeah, I probably will. I’m that angry.”
Manning does admit to receiving nutrition and oxygen therapy from Dr. Dale Guyer of the Guyer Institute, but says his wife never provided any medication for him to take. “It makes me sick that it brings Ashley into it, her medical history being violated,” Manning said. “Any medical treatment that my wife received, that’s her business.”
Who knows what to believe at this point. At the very least, Peyton has a strong case. It’s either defamation or a breech of his doctor/patient confidentiality.
