A man wearing a GoPro camera tragically recorded his drowning while kayaking in Mendenhall Lake, Alaska.
According to police, the incident involved 43-year-old Paul Rodriguez Jr., whose boat overturned, causing him to end up in glacial water.
On Monday, The Juneau Police Department said they would partner with the Alaska State Troopers to search for Paul Rodriguez Jr. after he went missing last week.
According to the press release, they discovered his vehicle parked at the Mendenhall Visitors Center parking lot on Sunday.
On Tuesday, Alaska State Troopers acknowledged a “Good Samaritan” for discovering a helmet with a GoPro attached during an extensive search, as stated in a separate statement.
“A review of the video determined Rodriguez had [drowned] on July 11 when his kayak overturned, and he went into the glacial water,” Alaska State Troopers said. “It is believed he was not wearing a [personal flotation device] or appropriate protective clothing for glacial water sports.”
The Alaska State Troopers informed the man’s family about the recent developments regarding the discovery of the GoPro helmet. The search for the man’s body will continue.
