2020 is off to a phenomenal start for Mara Brock Akil as the screenwriter and television producer has inked a new writing deal with Fox Entertainment.
According to Deadline, Under the network-direct pact, Brock Akil will develop and write a scripted series project,set to be produced by Fox Entertainment.
This news comes less than a month after a reboot for Akil’s hit series ‘The Game’ was announced, and just a day after her husband Salim Akil’s show ‘Black Lightning,’ which she executive produces, was renewed for a fourth season on the CW.
President of Fox Entertainment, Michael Thorn, spoke on the premium blind script deal with Akil stating, “Mara is a truly gifted writer, with a strong point of view. From ‘Girlfriends’ to ‘The Game’ to ‘Being Mary Jane,’ she’s a proven hitmaker with the unique ability to write both comedy and drama.”
This deal also comes as Akil is fresh off an overall deal with Warner Bros. TV. Through that deal, the two series ‘Black Lighting’ (CW) and ‘Love Is_’ (OWN) were born.
Taking to Instagram to express her gratitude regarding the new deal, Akil wrote, “PEN UP// Time to get to weeerrkkk!!!! Always GRATEFUL for the opportunity to do what I do best and challenge myself tell another story. What a privilege and an honor. Let’s get it @foxtv!”
“Since the formation of Fox Entertainment, we’ve said we want to be in business with the best and the brightest, and no one exemplifies that more than Mara Brock Akil,” Thorn stated.
