Warner Bros. and Mattel are joining forces to finally bring a Barbie movie to the big screen.
Fresh off the “Mary Queen Of Scots” debut, Margot Robbie signed on to make the toy vision a reality. Not only will she be the voice of the iconic doll, but she will also take on the role of co-producer under LuckyChap Entertainment.
Chairman of Warner Bros. Picture Group, Toby Emmerich, gushed how “ideal” Robbie is to take on both responsibilities because the Academy-Award nominee will be able to ” bring Barbie to life on screen in a fresh and relevant way for today’s audiences.”ā ā ā ā ā ā ā ā ā
Movies are just one of Ynon Kreiz’s plans to increase the shares of the struggling toy company. The Mattel CEO recognizes the once leading industry toy group’s loss of financial status by over 27 percent. A big part of the fall came from Toys R Us’ bankruptcy and shutdown. Not to mention, toys just fail in comparison to video games and electronics with today’s kids.
Fortunately, followers of the legendary brand can look forward to more movies, TV shows, live events, and merch.
