Mariah Carey and her longtime boyfriend, Bryan Tanaka, have split after seven years, reportedly partly due to his desire for children.
A source told PEOPLE that the 14-year age gap between Tanaka (40) and Carey (54) played a role in their split, as they wanted different things.
“He wants to have a family. That’s not where she is at,” the source said.
Fans began speculating that the couple had split after the Queen of Christmas was spotted solo on her annual trip to Aspen.
Tanaka was also notably absent from the singer’s “Merry Christmas One and All!” tour.
“He wants to start having his own life,” said another source.
Mariah Carey and Tanaka were last seen together during her birthday celebration in March.
Earlier this month, Carey heightened breakup rumors when telling PEOPLE she had experienced a challenging year.
“I’ve been looking forward to this Christmas for, like, the whole year. Since last year — because last year wasn’t the greatest.”
As you know, Carey shares 12-year-old twins with ex-husband Nick Cannon, while Tanaka doesn’t have any children.
