Before being elected to Congress, Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene posted about executing prominent Democrats on her social media in 2018 and 2019.
CNN KFile took a deep dive into Greene’s Facebook page comments and found that she posted far-right conspiracy theories, including QAnon conspiracies, frequently. In January of 2019, she liked a statement that said “a bullet to the head would be quicker” to relieve House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of her position.
In more posts on her page, Greene liked comments about executing FBI agents. Greene views the agents as part of the “deep state” working against Trump.
Most of Greene’s posts are aimed at Speaker Pelosi. Before running for Congress, she created a petition to have Pelosi removed over “crimes of treason.” In a speech to promote the petition, Greene suggested Pelosi could be executed for treason. Greene believed the treachery stemmed from Pelosi’s support of sanctuary policies and objecting to Trump’s border wall.
“She’s a traitor to our country; she’s guilty of treason,” she says in the Facebook video. “She took an oath to protect American citizens and uphold our laws. And she gives aid and comfort to our enemies who illegally invade our land. That’s what treason is. And by our law, representatives, and senators can be kicked out and no longer serve in our government. And it’s, uh, it’s a crime punishable by death is what treason is. Nancy Pelosi is guilty of treason.”
Greene, who represents Georgia’s 14th Congressional District, has faced calls to resign after objecting to the election certification process and maintaining that Trump would remain president. In doing so, she helped encourage the riot at the U.S. Capitol on January 6.
On Tuesday, Greene issued a statement accusing CNN of “writing yet another hit piece” on her.
“Over the years, I’ve had teams of people manage my pages. Many posts have been liked. Many posts have been shared. Some did not represent my views. Especially the ones that CNN is about to spread across the internet,” Greene wrote in the statement.
Fake News CNN is writing yet another hit piece on me focused on my time before running for political office.
