Actor Mark Wahlberg has most recently made headlines for reportedly receiving a $1.5 million compensation for reshooting his scenes in the 2017 film, ‘All the Money in the World’, while fellow co-star Michelle Williams was allegedly only paid $80 per day–which was said to have amounted to less than $1000.
The Ridley Scott-directed film was forced to reshoot after lead actor Kevin Spacey was removed from the project just weeks before its Christmas Day release. Spacey’s dismissal followed the recent sexual misconduct allegations made against him.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As a result, many of the cast members were asked to reappear for scene reshoots, and Spacey’s character was replaced with Canadian actor Christopher Plummer.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But, according to reports, Wahlberg actually refused to go forth with the casting changes unless he was given more pay for extra time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Rumors say that reshoots weren’t included in his contract for the film, which is why he requested an added fee, but a source claimed that to be false and says that reshoots were definitely somewhere written in the fine print.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Anyway, it’s obvious that everything must’ve been worked out because Wahlberg got paid… big time.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
USAToday initially broke the story about Michelle Williams’ unfair payment, which immediately sparked controversy about the apparent pay gaps between men and women in the workplace and even in Hollywood.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
However, Wahlberg has since issued a statement, announcing that he would be donating his ‘All the Money in the World’ paycheck to TimesUp’s legal fund for victims of sexual abuse and/or harassment. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The donation will be on behalf of Michelle Williams, who is an avid supporter of the newly-launched anti-sexual misconduct movement.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Over the last few days, my reshoot fee for ‘All The Money in the World’ has become an important topic of conversation,” Wahlberg writes. “I 100% support the fight for fair pay, and I’m donating the $1.5 million to the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund in Michelle Williams’ name.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The William Morris Endeavor (WME) talent agency–who represents both Wahlberg and Williams, will also donate an additional $500,000 to the fund.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Since Wahlberg’s statement, Williams has responded, publicly.
