Marsha Ambrosius sat down with Ferrari Simmons, OCT, and BT on the latest episode of the Baller Alert Show, sharing her experiences, inspirations, and insights into her upcoming album produced with Dr. Dre.

From Liverpool to ATL: Marsha Ambrosius’ Journey

Born and raised in Liverpool, UK, Marsha Ambrosius reflected on her unique background and the diverse music she grew up with. With a father who was deeply into funk and a mother who had an extensive vinyl collection, Marsha was surrounded by a rich musical environment. She shared how her family’s eclectic taste influenced her musical style, which spans Prince, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Queen, and Duran Duran.

Transition from Hooping Dreams to Music

Marsha revealed her initial passion for basketball, even playing for England, until an injury redirected her path to music. Writing became an outlet for her emotions, leading to the creation of her heartfelt song “If I Was a Bird,” inspired by her hoop dreams. She explained how this turning point eventually led her to pursue music seriously, despite her father’s initial reservations due to the industry’s challenges, especially for women.

The Power of Accents and Acting

The conversation took a fun turn as Marsha demonstrated her ability to switch between different accents, from her native Liverpool to American and Philly accents. This skill, developed over 24 years in the U.S., showcases her adaptability and charm. Her love for movies also came to light, with her diverse taste ranging from “ET” to “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.”

Music and Memories: Marsha’s Musical Foundation

Discussing the music that filled her home growing up, Marsha credited her father’s influence, who was a musician himself, and her mother’s extensive vinyl collection. This combination created the perfect environment for her to develop her musical talents organically. Despite the musical environment, Marsha shared that her journey into music was never forced but rather a natural progression.

Working with the Greats: From Michael Jackson to Dr. Dre

One of the standout moments in Marsha’s career was working with Michael Jackson on the song “Butterflies.” She recounted the surreal experience of producing the King of Pop, describing his incredible presence and professionalism. This early achievement set the stage for her to tackle even greater projects, including her latest work with Dr. Dre.

The Making of “Casablanco”

Marsha delved into the creation of her upcoming album, “Casablanco,” produced with Dr. Dre. The album, meticulously crafted over years, features intricate sampling and collaborations with top artists. Despite the challenges of clearing numerous samples, the project showcases Marsha’s and Dre’s dedication to producing a groundbreaking body of work. The album’s vintage Hollywood feel, combined with Dre’s gangster influence, promises a unique listening experience.

Addressing Amanda Seales’ Comments

Marsha also took a moment to address Amanda Seales’ comments about feeling unprotected during her time with Floetry. She expressed understanding for Amanda’s feelings but emphasized the difficulty of trying to satisfy an existing fan base while navigating personal and professional challenges. Marsha explained, “I could only do what I could have done at that time where I was at in my life. However, her experience of it was what it was for her. I know what happened for me. We’re 17 years later, and I’ve done so much healing.”

Love and Personal Life

Marsha also touched on her personal life, sharing how she met her husband on tour and how their relationship blossomed. Their shared passion for music and mutual support have been a cornerstone of her journey. Marsha’s story of balancing her roles as a wife, mother, and artist highlights her multifaceted personality and dedication.

Reflecting on Success and Staying Humble

Despite her numerous achievements, Marsha emphasized the importance of staying grounded and continuously reflecting on her journey. She encourages others to “do you” and truly understand themselves to succeed.
