On Monday, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit revealed that Martha Stewart, 81, would grace the cover of the magazine as the oldest cover model in the history of the publication.
Following her success as a chef, Stewart started publishing cookbooks and became famous in the 1980s. In 1990, she then released the first issue of Martha Stewart Living.
Stewart also currently hosts three Roku series: Martha Gardens, Martha Cooks, and Martha Holidays. She also hosts The Martha Stewart Podcast, where she conducts interviews with friends working in various professions as well as various business executives.
In August of last year, she opened her very first restaurant, The Bedford by Martha Stewart, which is located in the Paris hotel Las Vegas.
The publication has deemed Stewart the “OG of influencers,” reaching approximately 100 million fans per month.
“Never in her life has she let her circumstances dictate her outcome,” SI Swimsuit editor-in-chief MJ Day said of Stewart. “She’s changed with the times—always one step ahead, it seems—to build a wide-reaching business empire.”
“Usually I’m motivated by pay,” Stewart said. “But this time, I was motivated by showing people that a woman my age can still look good, feel good, be good.”
“I want other women, especially women to feel that they could also be on the cover of Sports Illustrated,” Stewart added. “I don’t think about age very much, but I thought that this is kind of historic.”
