Marvel is contemplating whether to replace Jonathan Majors in upcoming projects or to avoid featuring his character altogether.
According to Variety, Majors, known for his roles as Kang the Conqueror in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and this year’s season of “Loki,” was slated for roles in upcoming Marvel films, including a fifth Avengers movie.
Marvel Studios is becoming increasingly concerned as actor Jonathan Majors, 34, approaches trial following his March arrest on misdemeanor domestic violence charges.
Sources say that if found guilty in the criminal trial, Majors could potentially face a jail sentence of up to one year.
Marvel executives, including studio head Kevin Feige, recently convened at an annual retreat in Palm Springs to determine the next steps concerning the actor.
According to the source, Marvel is considering altering its focus within the MCU by shifting to another antagonist, like Dr. Doom. The other option is to recast Majors completely.
Additionally, Disney removed his film “Magazine Dreams” from its release schedule in December, coinciding with reports of Marvel considering changes regarding the actor. However, the executive producer of “Loki” told Variety in October that there were no talks about removing Majors from the show and expressed hesitancy to make rushed decisions without complete information.
In March, Majors faced legal troubles after an alleged domestic dispute in New York, resulting in minor injuries to the victim.
According to reports, he was charged with multiple misdemeanor counts of assault and harassment two days later. Still, his lawyer insisted that he “is completely innocent and probably the victim of an altercation with a woman he knows.”
