Marvel debuts the official trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
On Saturday, the footage made its first appearance at Marvel Studios’ panel at San Diego Comic-Con. The trailer acknowledges the passing of Wakanda’s king, Chadwick Boseman, while looking toward the birth of new life.
Director Ryan Coogler says the characters “must fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death.”
The trailer begins with a cover of Bob Marley’s “No Woman, No Cry” and concludes to the tune of Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright.” Lupita Nyong’o’s character is the first on-screen. Then Letitia Wright is seen in an all-white outfit and later in tearful scenes on the beach.
Boseman’s character, T’Challa, is shown as a mural flashes up, while Angela Basset’s character Queen Ramonda delivers an emotional speech.
“I am queen of the most powerful nation in the world, and now my entire family is gone. Have I not given everything?”
One question that seems to linger is, who will replace Boseman’s character? However, Coogler, “It’s going to be hard to follow that up, but we’ll try.”
Boseman starred in the first installment of the film as King T’Challa. Unfortunately, Boseman lost his four-year battle with colon cancer in 2020.
“It’s been five years since I was here,” Coogler says. “I sat about there, and we premiered the first footage from ‘Black Panther 1.’ And sitting next to me was our T’Challa, the late great Chadwick Boseman.”
The Black Panther sequel will be released in theaters on November 11th.
