In the words of the late great Marvin Gaye, “What’s Goin’ On?” regarding his oldest son, who was arrested recently for some pretty serious charges.
On Thursday night, Marvin Gaye III allegedly threatened his wife, Wendy Gaye, and a female cousin, pointing a gun at them inside his Calabasas home. The incident stemmed from a spat over a separate assault that occurred recently. When police arrived, he’d already fled the scene in his Corvette shortly after 8:00 p.m. The following day around 5:00 p.m., the 57-year-old turned himself into authorities. Gaye III was charged with one misdemeanor count of domestic violence and felony assault with a deadly weapon. The privileged music heir has since been released on a $50,000 bond.
Though the news of his arrest is shocking, an anonymous source told TMZ that the relationship between Wendy and Gaye III has been tumultuous for quite some time. Until now, Gaye III, a music producer and co-executor of his father’s estate, has kept a pretty low profile.
Gaye III is the adopted son of legendary Grammy-award winner Marvin Gaye and his wife, Anna Gordy Gaye, who were married from 1963 to 1977. Sadly, the renowned soul singer was killed by his own father, Marvin Gay Sr., on April 1st, 1984, one day before his 45th birthday.
Following his arrest, a judge ordered an emergency restraining order. Gaye III must stay away from his family and the home where the situation occurred. Police have also seized two of his guns from the residence.
