After raking in millions from Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams, the Gaye’s are setting their sights on Lee Daniels and the hit FOX television show, “Empire”.
According to Marvin Gaye III, the concept of “Empire” was all his idea. Gaye says that back in 2010 he registered a treatment for a show called “Diamonds & Ballads” (also known as “Those Sons of Riches”) with the Writers Guild of America. He describes the show as a black, more hip version of Dynasty and was loosely based on the lives of Berry Gordy and his family.
Gaye says he shopped the treatment around and is most certain that people in the industry, who may be associates of Lee Daniels, received emails pitching his treatment. He said it was rather obvious Daniels got his treatment when in 2014, he said “I wanted to make a black ‘Dynasty,'” the same description Gaye used in the treatment.
Marvin Gaye III says that he plans to file a lawsuit against Lee Daniels, Fox and others.
