Last week, Mary J. Blige revealed that she will be starring in a spinoff of Starz’s hit series, “Power.”
According to Variety, the singer made the announcement alongside creator and co-showrunner Courtney A. Kemp and executive producer 50 Cent during the show’s Television Critics Association summer press tour.
“This is probably the most exciting thing that’s going to happen to me this year,” said the Oscar nominee. “I’ve been a fan of ‘Power’ since the very beginning, and I want to thank Courtney Kemp and 50 Cent for starting this conversation with me.”
The new series, “Power Book II: Ghost,” will reportedly be one of many spinoffs and will develop the storylines of some of the show’s “most controversial characters,” that Blige said she can relate to.
“I’ve known so many Tashas, I’ve known so many Ghosts,” she said. “I’ve dated so many Ghosts. I’m a huge fan for life, and I’m so grateful to be a part of it.”
Apparently, Kemp and 50 Cent, were searching for star power to make the prequel “bigger,” and the songstress came to mind. The rapper took to Instagram over the weekend to confirm the news.
“You know the vibes, it don’t get better than this,” he captioned a photo of Blige.
“Power” originally aired in 2014, and gained a cult-like following for its depiction of organized crime. The sixth and final season is scheduled to premiere on Aug. 25.
