Mary J. Blige Expands Her Lifetime Network Portfolio With New Multi-Picture Deal

Following the success of her 2023 films ‘Real Love’ and ‘Strength of a Woman,’ Mary J. Blige is joining forces with Lifetime once again! Known for her iconic music and outstanding films, Blige will executive produce several upcoming projects for the network, kicking off with her “Family Affair” movie. Inspired by her 2001 hit song, the film is expected to debut next year as a part of Lifetime’s “Voice of a Lifetime” series.

According to the official summary, fans will get chance to see ‘Real Love’ and ‘Strength of a Woman’ stars Ajiona Alexus and Da’Vinchi as they reprise their roles as Kendra and Ben. The film will follow the couple as they move to a new city with hopes of building a life together. However, despite their efforts, challenges will arise as tension increases from their struggles with fertility and blending families. Without giving too much detail, their relationship eventually takes a turn after Ben secretly helps his brother, leading Kendra to move back to the city and reconnect with an old friend. While Ben and Kendra’s relationship is on the verge of collapsing, their families step in to help them rekindle their love.

Through her Blue Butterfly production company, Blige will lead the film, alongside producers Jordan Davis and John Davis from Davis Entertainment. Additionally, Bruce Miller and Milana Edwards-Brooks, Alexus and Da’Vinchi, will also serve as producers on the film. Front Street Pictures is slated to produce “Family Affair,” with Troy Scott directing from a script by Rachel Ingram.

Nonetheless, Blige’s relationship with Lifetime has evolved into a wonderful partnership. Outside of ‘Real Love’ and ‘Strength of a Woman,’ Blige executive produced ‘The Clark Sisters: The First Ladies of Gospel’ in 2020. She also starred as Dr. Betty Shabazz in the 2001 film Betty & Coretta. With production for ‘Family Affair’ beginning this month, the film promises to deliver a compelling yet emotional story that focuses on love and family.
