Just ahead of Mary J. Blige’s divorce trial, the living legend has filed new docs to inform her estranged husband that, contrary to popular belief, her recent Hollywood success is not a money grab.
In docs obtained by @blast, Blige says she shouldn’t have to fork over any spousal support to her ex Kendu Isaacs. In fact, she claims he is the reason she is in financial ruin.

According to the publication, Blige says her Oscar-nominated role for Best Supporting Actress and Song in “Mudbound,” cost her more than she was actually compensated for the film. She says she’s had to secure other gigs and opportunities to earn income, but it’s been rough, as most of her money is going straight to her celebrity.

Although most of Blige’s money comes from touring, she says as a “legacy artist, there is no market for her to embark on a major world tour every year.” To make matters worse, Blige doesn’t own the right to her own music, so she can’t even make a profit off it.

In addition to all of that, Blige says she owes $25 million in advances, plus the $12 million in debt that she is paying off for both her and Isaacs. As a result, she believes it would be extremely unfair for her to have to pay spousal support, especially since Isaacs is completely capable of finding his own job.

According to the Blast, the two are expected to argue it out in court next month.
